AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas lawmakers are set to introduce the state's budget bill on Tuesday. Over the course of the legislative session, hundreds of other bills to figure out what to fund and what to cut will come along and could directly affect you.
With so much at stake, KXAN Austin News wanted to know: How would you balance the budget ?
“Everything’s bigger in Texas,” said Clark Sugar. “Even the budget.”
Sugar and his wife were visiting Austin from Wisconsin on Monday. While their state has its own money troubles, they could not help but noticing the talk in Texas.
“What you make is all you can spend,” Sugar said. “I think that's intuitive, unless you can get loans. Or you can get a new job. Make more money."
Spend only within your means, get a loan, raid your savings or find another source of revenue. Seventy-nine percent of people who KXAN polled online said the state should raise taxes to cover a projected $27 billion shortfall.
"I think we should raise taxes,” one woman said. “We need more money to pay for the things that are important to spend money on."
"Best of luck to Texas,” Sugar added.
For those who didn't catch the latest episode, the entire Session '11 show where KXAN breaks down the budget is streamed online .
Central Texans are invited to watch the Session '11 show every Sunday morning at 9:30, only on KXAN Austin News.
