BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - Bastrop Police Department Chief David Board was arrested in Austin Monday night on charges of driving while intoxicated.

Travis County Sheriff's Department spokesman Roger Wade said authorities arrested Board at Ed Bluestein Boulevard around 9:45 p.m.

Wade said Austin police officers arrested Board and charged him with a DWI , a misdemeanor. Board was released on $5,000 recognizance bond.

KXAN Austin News has left messages for Board and Bastrop City Manager Mike Talbot, who -- according to the Associated Press -- said that Assistant Chief Matt Wagner will assume the police chief's duties while he addresses some personal matter.

Meanwhile, the police department's website still had the chief's welcome message and photo posted as of Wednesday morning.

KXAN Austin News is still waiting to hear back on the status of Board’s future at the Bastrop Police Department.
