LULING, Tx. (KXAN) - Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old Luling boy who was killed in the backyard of a house around noon on Thursday, authorities said.

The boy had bite marks "consistent with being bitten by a dog," police said, and a female pit ball was also in the backyard. Police weren't clear whether the dog belonged to the boy's family.

Officers are interviewing family members who were at the scene, and the dog has been impounded by the city's animal-control officer to determine if it was involved in the child’s death.

An autopsy is planned to determine the boy's exact cause of death. More information will be released as the investigation continues.
