AUSTIN (KXAN) - Sunday's  "Run With the Heroes" event was designed to bring communities together with first responders, to honor fallen heroes of emergency services and to show support for their families.

This year's race honors fallen Austin Police Department Officer Jaime Padron, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on April 6, 2012.

Each year, Austin police officers team with Special Olympics Texas and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

"Run with the Heroes" is donating proceeds to the Special Olympics Texas' athletes and their goals.

The race happened at 8 a.m. at Southpark Meadows, 9600 Interstate Highway 35.

This year KXAN's Shannon Wolfson  emceed the event with Police Chief Art Acevedo.
