AUSTIN (KXAN) - A suspect linked to the murders of two local women back in the 1980s had a court date on Wednesday.

Mark Norwood's court appointed attorney, Russell Hunt attended the hearing. Norwood is suspected of killing Christine Morton in 1986. Her husband, Michael Morton, was wrongly convicted and spent 25 years in prison before DNA evidence cleared his name earlier this year .

Norwood also is suspected of killing Debra Baker in 1988.

"You might expect a person charged with these terrible charges to be despondent," said attorney Russell Hunt. "Mr. Norwood seems to have a very positive attitude and is interested in fighting these charges and proving his innocence, that he was not involved in these terrible crimes at all."

Hunt will not be seeking bail for Norwood. Instead, he said he would put his time and effort into building a case for Norwood's innocence.
