When did you start at KXAN?

What was your most memorable story?

I have enjoyed doing every up-close-and-personal feature story I’ve written about individuals over the years, getting to know what makes them who they are. One that stands out was an interview with W.D. Farr in Greeley, Colo., one of the pioneer men on the team that brought water in the 1940s from the western side of the Rocky Mountains to the east, via the Colorado-Big Thompson River Project, through the mountains, not over them, via a tunnel blasted through from one side to the other beneath the Continental Divide.

How did you get started in news?

The circular journey: I started work in the newspaper field in 1977, did a year in radio, nine years in city government, which led to work in marketing / public relations / event planning. I owned my own business for a few years, and wrote freelance for newspapers and magazines. The combination landed me at KXRM, a FOX station, in Colorado Springs as the interactive managing editor. I next made the move to Austin and KXAN News.

Where did you go to college?

I earned my B.A. in Communication from Regis University. I attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana after high school before heading west to the Rocky Mountains.

What's your hometown?

Born and raised in Chicago, I spent 36 years in Colorado with a two-year stint in California sandwiched in the middle. I made a permanent move to Austin in June 2010.

What's your favorite thing about Austin?

I like the warm (hot) weather (really). The music scene, the arts, rivers and lakes in the area are ideal. I love the 'dog' city that it is!

What's your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate, what else?

How would you like to make a difference?

By helping to grow the new church that I am a part of here in Austin, and doing the best I can at my responsiblities at KXAN.

What's your favorite band or musician?

Eagles. Also Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Moody Blues, Kim Hill, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson, Point of Grace, Richie Havens -- I could go on and on.

What's your favorite movie?

"Mr. Holland’s Opus." But in my heart, "The Wizard of Oz" was special to me and my family when I was a kid. I'd kill to get one of the original pairs of Dorothy's ruby slippers (kidding on the kill part)!

What's your favorite TV show?

American Idol, HGTV, Glee, Antiques Roadshow, most PBS shows, Austin City Limits (a fan for years, no matter where I was living!)

Tell us about your family.

I have three adult children, a few grandchildren and two dogs.
