Multi-platform Journalist, Ignacio Garcia, has been with KXAN since November 2011 when he was hired as a news photographer.  In May 2012, Ignacio accepted a well-deserved promotion and became KXAN’s newest Hill Country Reporter and Multi-platform Journalist.

After graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in Radio, Film, and Television, Ignacio landed his first job as a production assistant at WFAA-TV in Dallas.  During his 10 years with WFAA, Ignacio worked his way up to writer, associate producer, and part-time weekend reporter for a weekend magazine show.   He also did a lot of freelance work for major networks such as NBC, CBS News, MTV, HBO, ESPN, Discovery, Sat1 Germany, Sky1 Russia TV and also produced several travel reports from various Caribbean, Latin American, and South American countries for different outlets.

While working as a news photographer in 2005, Ignacio was fortunate to cover Texas Longhorn Football behind the scenes for what turned out to be their championship season.  Ignacio shot several home games, the Big 12 Championship in Houston, and traveled with the team to Pasadena, California for the Rose Bowl.  He was assigned to follow Coach Mack Brown and Quarterback Vince Young for the entire day’s events and football game at the National Championship against USC.

Throughout his career, Ignacio has received two Emmy Awards, a Headliner Award, and was a crew member for the Emmy Award-winning CBS news program, 60 Minutes. While at KXAN he has received an AP News Award and has been nominated for a 2012 Emmy for his work as a photojournalist.
