When did you start at KXAN?

April, 2010

How did you get started in TV?

I began volunteering at the student-run television station in college really just hoping it would allow me to cover sporting events for free rather than have to pay for a ticket. But the more time I spent up there, slowly I began to do more work for the weekly newscast students produced.

What is your most memorable story?

I have covered several tornados and hurricanes I will never forget, but probably my favorite story ever came in Wichita, Kansas. I reported on a disabled, single father on a fixed income whose small home was burglarized just days before Christmas and the thieves took all the presents belonging to his two young children. Without any kind of organized effort, people who saw the story began calling and wanted to donate toys to the family. So many people wanted to help, we ended up delivering all the toys to the family on Christmas Eve. The look on their faces was great. Their worst Christmas became probably the best Christmas of their lives in just a matter of days.

What is your favorite thing about Austin?

Aside from not having to go far to see the Longhorns play, I would have to say all the great outdoor spots. The greenbelt, Town Lake, Lake Travis, Barton Springs, Mount Bonnell, there is really no reason to spend anytime inside…. Unless maybe it is raining.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Any kind of food buffett. I have a hard time knowing when to stop. I also drink way too much sweet tea.
