KXAN Weekend Sports Anchor, Brent Carney, joined the team in May 2012. After earning his degree from St. Louis University, Brent’s journalism career began as a writer for the Bristol Herald Courier in Bristol, Va.
A native of Nashville, Brent got the opportunity to do some on-air work covering news and sports for the Courier’s partner, WJHL-TV in Johnson City, Tenn. Brent got his first full time sports job with WLEX in Lexington, Kentucky before making his way to Austin.
Along with covering college basketball games at Rupp Arena and the Kentucky Derby, Brent credits Kentucky’s 2012 National Championship team as his most memorable story.
Brent has two brothers, with his older brother living in Missouri, and his younger brother – a former University of Tennessee decathlete, lives in Knoxville.
