What's your name?
Shane Allen

What's your position?
Austin News Assignments Manager
(Loose Definition: News, content and logistics coordinator for the Austin News brand)

When did you start at KXAN Austin News?
July, 2006

What was your most memorable story?
Definitely my investigation into Austin police officers caught running red lights.

How did you get started in TV?
I started as an unpaid intern at KBTV in Beaumont, TX working on their night-side desk. (This was while I still had a full-time day job as the Marketing & Advertising Director / Webmaster of www.usflag.com) Shortly after my internship started, I was offered a full-time job at KBTV as their Assignments Manager. I quickly quit my usflag.com job and took the job at KBTV!

What's your hometown?
I was born in Lake Charles, LA. I was raised in the Florida panhandle, near Destin/Ft. Walton Beach.

What's your favorite thing about Austin?
The wineries in the Hill Country.

What's your guilty pleasure?
Hell’s Kitchen on Fox. (I know—shame on me for not picking an NBC show.) I do like NBC’s Will & Grace and own every season on DVD.

Tell us about your family.
I live in Southeast Austin with my fiance, Andy, who works for a major airline, and two dogs—Molly and Tanner. Andy flies to work every morning from Austin (seriously). My mother’s side of the family lives in Southeast Texas / Southwest Louisiana. My father’s side of the family lives in Florida. I have four brothers and three sisters.
