What's your position? Hill Country Reporter
When did you start at KXAN? June 2008
What was your most memorable story?
Covering the deadly tornado that ripped through the small North Texas town of Westminster on May 9, 2006. My photographer and I were the first news crew on the scene minutes after it hit. Residents were running around in nightgowns calling out the names of their neighbors to find out if they were all accounted for. You could see the small beams from flashlights revealing the massive piles of debris that were once homes. Neighbors were searching for people underneath the rubble. It was the first and only time so far in my career that I have witnessed the immediate aftermath of such a devastating natural disaster.
How did you get started in TV?
Technically, my first television gig came at the age of two. I was in one of Matthew Broderick's first movies called '1918' which was filmed in my hometown. My freshman year of college I decided to try out broadcast journalism and got hooked while reporting for the campus news program. I interned at KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City and then worked full time at KFOR-TV as an assistant producer during my senior year. I went on to report for KXII-TV in Sherman, Texas and then moved south to report and fill-in anchor at KRIS-TV in Corpus Christi. It was there that I won the 2007 TAPB second place award for Best Reporter.
Where did you go to college? Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City
Where's your hometown? Waxahachie, Texas (just south of Dallas)
What's your favorite thing about the Hill Country?
It's hard to narrow it down, but I have to say it's the 10 minute drive to work everyday taking in the breathtaking landscape. Spotting a deer or two is always an added bonus!
What's your guilty pleasure?
Movie popcorn loaded with lots of butter. I will continue eating every bite of the large tub until I'm sick to my stomach.
Tell us about your family.
My husband and I live in Marble Falls. My parents still live in my hometown of Waxahachie. My mother is a school administrator. My father is a retired principal and an avid bird hunter. I have one older brother who owns a marketing company and is currently working in Toronto, Canada. I am also finally near my closest cousin who lives in Austin.
