HOWARD COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - In honor of fallen Trooper Troy Hogue, the Department of Public Safety is dedicating a new patrol boat named after him.
The dedication ceremony for its newest patrol boat happened Thursday morning, where the Hogue family gave the first patrol orders at Walter E. Long Park.
A DWI suspect on March 6, 1994 shot Hogue dead around 6 p.m., after responding to a car crash on Interstate Highway 20 in Howard County.
This 34-foot, shallow-water boat will be the fourth of six dedicated to a fallen officer across the state of Texas.
The Highway Patrol Tactical Marine Unit is using the boats to fight drug dealers and human smugglers.
They are equipped with a special armor, engines and night vision cameras.
