While seeking money from people in Texas, last week the Obama Administration denied a request to declare a disaster in Texas because of the wildfires, which would make the state eligible for federal funds.
Friday, both senators from Texas asked the president to tour the state's wildfire damage while he's here.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Sen. John Cornyn sent the president a joint statement, which reads "We are hopeful that after seeing this devastation firsthand, you will reconsider your recent denial and provide the state and localities with the vital resources and funding required to fully support their work."
