KILLEEN, TEXAS (KXAN) - Emotions are still very raw, after an Army officer opened fire on a crowd of his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood Thursday. There are so many soldiers and their families waiting for answers. Communication has been limited and they are exhausted.

Meanwhile, two month old Alexis' cry is a reminder for Kristina Hill this day could have been much different.

"I would be devastated if he wasn’t here today.” Said Hill. “I don't know if I could go on. He is my life; he is my everything."

Specialist Ryan Hill was in the Soldier Readiness Processing Center just before the shots rang out and possible the only one thankful to have H1N1.

"I came back positive so they sent me home," said SPC Hill.

His relief is met with heartbreak as the Hill family joined hundreds at a Candle light vigil last night. Song and prayer provided attendees temporary repose from the overwhelming loss.

"It just makes you realize what everything means to you," said Kristina Hill.

Two of Hill's friends were also in that building and now he cannot reach them.

"Not knowing is real tough," said SPC Hill.

Now Hill is spending every minute he can with his family. He takes a break from playing with three-year old Emma because he is torn and worried for his two Army brothers.
