Calif. school bus kidnapper denied parole again

CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (AP) — One of three California men who kidnapped 26 Chowchilla children and their school bus driver in 1976 has been denied parole again.
Madera County prosecutors say the state Board of Parole Hearings denied parole Wednesday for James Schoenfeld for the next three years.
The Fresno Bee reports (http://bit.ly/ZBnR5Q ) Schoenfeld was also denied parole three years ago.
Schoenfeld, his brother, Richard, and a friend, Fred Woods, were convicted of kidnapping 26 school students and their bus driver and burying them alive in a van inside a Livermore rock quarry in the hopes of collecting a $5 million ransom. The victims spent 16 hours there before they escaped.
Woods and James Schoenfeld are inmates at prison in San Luis Obispo. Richard Schoenfeld was released on parole at an undisclosed location in June.
