AP Interview: Detroit manager seeks council's help

DETROIT (AP) — The newly appointed emergency manager charged with getting Detroit's finances back on track is welcoming input from city officials as he begins his job next week.
Kevyn Orr told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday that he'll meet Monday with Mayor Dave Bing and hopes to sit down with members of the City Council. Orr says the council has an important role to play in restoring Detroit's financial stability.
The council tried but failed to block the appointment of an emergency manager to oversee its finances.
His hiring came after a review team and Gov. Rick Snyder determined that Detroit was in a financial emergency and had no good plan to turn things around.
Detroit's has a budget deficit exceeding $300 million and $14 billion in long-term debt.
