WACO, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas city's flag that an Air Force officer proudly posed with in Iraq has been returned home with him.

Waco Mayor Jim Bush last July gave the flag to Maj. David Lamkin shortly before the officer deployed.

Lamkin says the flag flew over Sather Air Base in Baghdad in September on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The Waco Tribune-Herald reported Wednesday that Lamkin also had Waco flag photos taken at Air Force bases in Germany, Italy, Kuwait and Qatar.

Lamkin returned from Iraq in late 2011. Bush earlier this month accepted the flag back on behalf of the Waco City Council.

Lamkin, who teaches aerospace studies in Baylor University's ROTC program , served in Afghanistan in 2005.
