FORT HOOD, Texas (KXAN) - Fort Hood officials have released the name of a soldier who was found unresponsive in his Fort Hood residence on Thursday. He was transported to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center and pronounced dead later that evening.
Spec. Joel Chuca, 24, whose home of record is listed as Longmont, Colo., entered the military in September 2009 as a motor transport operator. He was assigned to 418th Transportation Company, 180th Transportation Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Fort Hood, since March 2012.
Chuca's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and Driver & Mechanic Badge with Driver Wheeled Vehicles.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.
