AUSTIN (KXAN) - A man is in critical condition Tuesday morning after police said he was shot during a carjacking near SH 45.

Austin police arrived at the 400 block of FM 1327 after a call came into the Austin Police Department at 6:11 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said they immediately discovered a Red Wing Shoes delivery truck stopped on the SH 45 access road with a wounded man standing in front of it.

The man had been shot in the upper right area of his chest, reportedly by one of two people involved in the carjacking.

He was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge without life-threatening injuries. Officials said the man is in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the scene at FM 1327 and I-35 remains an active crime scene while police investigate the area. They said they do not know why the man was in that area or why he stopped.

Since the truck had not been opened, they said they are unsure of the suspects' motives for the crime. The contents of the truck are unknown.
