LOCKHART, Texas (KXAN) - Police arrested a 28-year-old Lockhart High School teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a female from the same school.
Lockhart Police Chief, Michael Lummus, said they arrested Christopher Knox on November 4, three days after they were notified by officials with Lockhart ISD about the relationship.
Police said Knox was a teacher and a coach at the high school and that he had been with the district for three years.
Police started investigating the incident when a 17-year-old girl at the school told other students about her relationship with Knox.
According to Lummus, the girl was not in Knox’s class, but the two were connected through the school’s athletic department.
Detectives are waiting on forensic evidence, e.g. cellphones and computers, before they can determine how long the inappropriate relationship had been going on.
Knox posted $125,000 bond the same day he was arrested.
Lockhart ISD released the following statement:
We understand the public's interest in this matter and want to assure the community that Lockhart ISD takes this allegation seriously. In addition to the Lockhart PD investigation, the school district has been conducting its own internal investigation. Because of the nature of the allegation, state and federal law will not allow us to provide any additional information to the media at this time.
