AUSTIN (KXAN) - A pregnant woman is in the hospital and her sister-in-law is in jail after a shooting on Thursday night.

The shooting happened in the 13000 block of Broadmeade Road on the Williamson County side of Austin shortly after 10 p.m.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, an argument between Cynthia Salazar, 39 and her 30-year-old brother Orlando Salazar escalated when Cynthia grabbed a handgun.

Things escalated even further when Orlando’s pregnant wife, Andrea Salazar, 21, attempted to intervene and was allegedly shot once in the stomach by Cynthia, police said.

Orlando and Andrea left the house and called police from a hotel near Pond Springs and U.S. 183, according to police

The couple were taken to Round Rock Medical Center by ambulance for their injuries. Orlando was released from the hospital but Andrea remains there in critical condition.

Detectives met with Cynthia soon after the shooting and she was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Cynthia’s charges could be escalated depending on Andrea’s condition due to her injuries and pregnancy.

Cynthia remains in the Williamson County Jail with a bond of $175,000.
