ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) - The driver of an 18-wheeler who was ejected in a Round Rock wreck is in "serious, critical condition" and is not breathing on his own, according to officials.
Round Rock police officer Dee Carver said he was seriously injured in the wreck that involved only his semitruck the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 at Louis Henna Boulevard. The crash happened around 6:20 p.m.
The intersection is also located near the State Highway 45 interchange. The driver was ejected after his truck hit an overpass support, which split the cab in half and caused it to disconnect from the trailer.
Witnesses said they heard the impact from across the highway.
"The cab ripped off the frame and the engine thrown out and a gentleman laying on the ground," explained Christopher Wilford of the scene.
The driver was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Crews cleared the northbound lanes of the interstate just before 9:30 p.m.
