RRISD opens new elementary school

Elsa England ES will relieve overcrowding

AUSTIN (KXAN) - It's a new school year and a completely new school for some elementary students in the Round Rock school district.

On Thursday afternoon, parents, students and teachers had the chance to peruse the new Elsa England Elementary School in North Austin.

The school is so new that the school's address at 8801 Pearson Ranch Road doesn't show up on Google Maps . For the record, England ES is on the south side of Avery Ranch Boulevard, near Sommer Elementary School.

Round Rock Independent School District patterned the new school after Linda Herrington Elementary .

England Elementary has a capacity of 900 students -- which will be good for the growth in that area of town -- but the new school will only house around 450 students this year. The school will help relieve overcrowding at Sommer Elementary.

The school was originally budgeted for $26.2 million and was built for roughly $23.5 million.
