ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) - Round Rock police are on high alert after a home invasion involving an armed burglar who remains on the run.

Officer Dee Carver said it happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Hyridge Circle, which turns into Ridgemont Street.

The homeowners immediately ran out of the house and called police along the way after someone broke into the home, taking the door down.

The people inside met Round Rock police on Ridgemont Street a couple of blocks away and ended up spending the night elsewhere.

Police searched the house, but the suspect was gone. Authorities are uncertain about what, if anything, was taken.

Carver said they do not have a suspect.

Several people have been questioned, including a person of interest, but police have arrested no one. They are still investigating Friday morning, canvassing the neighborhood.

Investigators said they believe it was an isolated incident.

The burglar reportedly had a gun, though it is now uncertain what kind.

Meanwhile, there were no injuries. If anyone has any information, they're asked to contact Round Rock police. The nonemergency number is 512-218-5515.

In-Depth: Round Rock crime rates dropping

In mid-July 2012 KXAN News looked into how the large suburb continued to see falling crime rates, despite its thriving and booming community.

Census figures put Round Rock among the nation's fastest-growing cities, and the Texas Department of Public Safety ranks Round Rock the No. 2 large city when it comes to falling crime rates.

The rate fell by 18.2 percent during the past two years.

Round Rock is second only to McAllen as having the biggest drop in crime during the last two years.

City leaders said residents have a culture of wanting a safe community. They are active in public events and have a sense of knowing their neighbors.

Police Chief Tim Ryle  said his department is routinely out in the community and encouraging their people to trust and reach out to them.
