GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) - A man who believed he was exercising his 2nd Amendment right, caused a Georgetown ISD elementary school to go into a shelter-in-place on Friday morning.
Georgetown police said they received a 9-1-1 just before 11 a.m. in reference to a man walking through a neighborhood in the 700 block of FM 1460, dressed in camouflage and carrying a rifle.
While the call was unusual, authorities said they were almost expecting the call.
According to Captain Roland Waits, 28-year-old Georgetown resident Jerrid Wilha contacted the Georgetown Police Department earlier this week and told them that he was going to do a peaceful protest on Friday.
Since authorities were already aware of his intentions, Waits said officers were already keeping a watchful eye over the neighborhood.
While Wilha wasn't arrested for breaking any laws on Friday, he was arrested for an outstanding warrant for retaliation out of Travis County.
Since Annie Purl Elementary is located a half-mile from the neighborhood, the school was asked to implement security measures as a precautionary measure.
