CEDAR PARK (KXAN) - Cedar Park police are investigating a bizarre road rage incident where they say a man intentionally struck a woman with his car three separate times in a grocery store parking lot.

It happened Sept. 29 in the H-E-B parking lot in Cedar Park. Police said Le Huu Nguyen, 72, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the incident.

"We're not sure what sparked it," said Capt. Mike Harmon with the Cedar Park Police Department. "It's an unusual circumstance."

The victim, a 33-year-old woman, told police she was loading her son into his car seat and her groceries in the back seat around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when she noticed the driver of the car next to her trying to pull out of his space. The woman said she tried to pull the door closer to her in order to make more room for the driver, but the car struck her door anyway.

According to court documents, the woman moved around to the front of Nguyen's car and police said what happened next was assault.

"At that time he backed up and started approaching her again with his vehicle and struck her again and then backed up and struck her for a third time," said Harmon.

The woman was hit so hard, she fell onto the hood of the car and when she was struck a third time, she fell to the ground and rolled her ankle. Several witnesses called 911 and police arrested Nguyen at the scene.

"We felt like he was intentionally doing it," said Harmon.

Police said Nguyen offered no explanation about why he hit the woman with his car. He posted bond and is out of jail.
