TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) - The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force narrowed in on a 35-year-old man in North Austin, arresting Javier Becerra-Avila.

Found in the 9800 block of Teasdale Terrace, Becerra-Avila was wanted on several warrants -- including aggravated assault with a weapon.

After tips that he was staying in a home in the area, police caught up with him -- but not before a short chase after Becerra-Avila reportedly tried to run away.

Officers headed to the Teasdale Terrace address after being tipped off that Becerra-Avila was seen at a home in the area.

Task force officers said after staking out most of the day, they saw Becerra-Avila leaving a home around 7:30 p.m. Monday. As officers approached, Becerra-Avila ran from the home but was quickly arrested after he reportedly tried to go into a nearby home.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshals had been looking for Becerra-Avila since Wednesday, when they said he ran from officers as he was being served a warrant in Taylor earlier in the day.

Becerra-Avila is charged with assaulting an officer from the Rio Grande Valley's Palmview Police Department on May 12 after he was pulled over near McAllen, according to Cord Campbell, supervisory deputy of the U.S. Marshals. Campbell said Becerra-Avila kicked and punched the officer.

In addition to the aggravated assault warrant filed in Palmview, Becerra-Avila is also wanted on charges of resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated stemming from this incident.
