PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN0 - Pflugerville City Council approved the 2012-2013 budget on Tuesday, and implemented a one-half cent property tax reduction for the eighth consecutive year, making Pflugerville’s tax rate .594 per $100 valuation.
The average home value is $152,588 and that taxpayer would see an $8 reduction (from $914 to $906) in city taxes with the new tax rate.
City officials said the budget includes $64,101,569 in expenses, $22,152,162 of which is for the General Fund. The General Fund budget includes a 25 percent general fund balance of $5,359,047 and an additional 5 percent ($1,071,809) set aside for any minor emergency that might arise.
For the first time, the city’s budgeted 2012-2013 general fund revenue reflects the city receiving a majority of its income from sources other than from property tax revenue, mostly due to the increase in sales tax revenue.
"What we've done has worked, and it's a beautiful thing," Mayor Jeff Coleman said. "Once again our city has developed a budget that is mindful of council priorities while also insuring our community’s needs are met.”
