PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - There was excitement in Pflugerville on Monday as a fast-moving project to open the state's first drivers license megacenter has come true.
A ribbon-cutting celebration marked the end of an eighth-month building project. The new facility will be ready to take new customers starting tomorrow morning.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials expect the megacenter to serve as many as 175,000 customers the first year alone. High-tech systems in the new office will help reduce wait times.
"They can use their smart phone or they can go online with a computer and be able to get in line and then be notified when it's their time to come to the office," said Rebecca Davio, assistant director of the DPS driver's license division.
DPS built the center in Pflugerville because of the population boom expected all around the area. All existing driver's license offices remain open statewide.
