WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A man who led police on a high-speed chase in Williamson County got a 25-year prison sentence Thursday morning.

The driver, Bobby Villanueva, 40, pleaded guilty to evading arrest with a vehicle in the chase that happened Dec. 8 at 9 p.m. in Granger.

Villanueva tried to tell the Granger police officer that he was sitting in the parking lot of a school to use the free Wi-Fi. The officer was responding to an alarm that had been activated on the school property.

The officer found Villanueva had a suspended driver's license and tried to detain him to investigate further when Villanueva started the car and sped off.

The officer chased him and found his abandoned car after Villanueva ditched it to run away.

Authorities caught up with Villanueva a week later at a Taylor home and booked him.

Villanueva has a long criminal history, including three trips to prison for aggravated assault in 1992 and 2000 and possession of a controlled substance in 1994.

During sentencing, the judge also took into consideration pending cases against Villanueva for bail jumping and forgery.
