Ten days ago we told you about a Williamson County nonprofit that was targeted by thieves, taking more than five thousand dollars worth of equipment. But viewers have responded and Habitat for Humanity will be able to finish their Round Rock home on schedule by year's end.
"The community has really risen up" said Rick MacIver, construction manager at Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, "And we've actually met our goal of replacing our tools that were stolen out of our trailer".
MacIver says the generosity of the public is a testament there are a lot of good people out there. Now he and his crew can finish their home on time.
"We didn't skip a beat on this because the community really helped immediately to recover these tools" said MacIver, "So we didn't lose a day worth of work it just hurts our hearts".
Jennifer Kready, resource development director at Habitat says it only took a few minutes after our original story aired for folks to respond, collecting $3200 in small contributions within a few days. The rest came in larger donations.
"I've worked in non profit for over 12 years and everywhere I've been people are ready to help out" said Kready, "They need to know what the need is and when we told everybody what our need was they responded quickly".
The kindness hasn't healed the wound the thieves left behind, but knowing so many other people care makes their heart ache feel better. Having said that MacIver still hasn't given up on his power tools.
" You know who you are" said MacIver, "And you can still bring these tools back because that's really the right thing to do".
Note: This case remains open. If you know anything about who broke into the Habitat for Humanity equipment trailer last month, you are asked to call Round Rock Police.
