Georgetown issues burn ban notice

GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) - Effective immediately due to high fire danger, all outdoor burning is prohibited in the Georgetown Emergency Services District 8, which includes unincorporated areas served by the Georgetown Fire Department.

The outdoor burn ban is in effect until 12 p.m. on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for Saturday including 28 south central Texas counties, including Williamson. Low humidity and 20 mph winds with gusts up to 30 mph are forecast.

The burn ban prohibits burning any combustible material outside of an enclosure which serves to contain all flames and/or sparks. The burning of household yard waste, such as leaves, grass, brush and other yard trimmings, is prohibited. Burning to clear land of trees, stumps, shrubbery, or other natural vegetation also is prohibited.

The purpose of the burn ban is to mitigate the hazard posed by wildfires due to dry conditions by curtailing the practice of outdoor burning. The burn ban may be enforced by any duly-commissioned peace officer.

Outdoor burning is not allowed at any time within the city limits of Georgetown, unless the Georgetown Fire Department has issued a permit authorizing an outdoor burn.
