GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) - The Georgetown Fire Department has contained a small six-acre brush fire just outside the camping area at Russell Park. Russell Park is just west of Lake Georgetown.
The fire was called in about 3 p.m., said spokesman Keith Hutchinson. By 6 p.m., it was 80 percent contained, primarily through the efforts of StarFlight to drop water on the brush fire.
Fire trucks could not enter the area because of the rocky terrain, so firefighters were traversing the area by foot, with water in backpacks, to put out any potential hot spots.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. Campers at the park were evacuated a precaution. Hutchinson said he was uncertain when they would return to the camping area.
