GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) - An 8-year-old Georgetown boy is in the hospital after being hit by an SUV while crossing a Georgetown intersection.

The driver of the black Ford SUV was picked up by Georgetown police after witnesses followed the vehicle.

The victim was crossing the intersection of Northwest Boulevard and Janis Drive at 7:48 p.m. Tuesday with two siblings.

The 8-year-old was taken to Dell Children's Hospital in critical condition with head injuries.

The driver was identified as 59-year-old Charles Edwin Thurmond according to Georgetown police spokesperson Lt. Todd Terbush.

The investigation is ongoing, it is unknown what charges will be filed, but Georgetown police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
