ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) - Round Rock City Council voted unanimously Thursday to move forward on a traffic signal on Gattis School Road after a student was killed January 28th.
12-year-old Shaylah Dame was hit by two cars and killed as she crossed Gattis School Road near the Clay Madsen Recreation Center.
The council needs a second vote, expected February 25, to approve the measure said Round Rock spokesperson Will Hampton.
City officials met with representatives from neighborhoods near the recreation center, including Dames' parents, to discuss safety options along the street.
A four-way stop at Gattis School Rd. and Windy Park Drive would be installed temporarily until a traffic signal is installed.
A traffic light could take upwards of 10 months to install.
The stop signs could go in as early as Feb. 26.
