AUSTIN (KXAN) - Classes at Canyon Ridge Middle School in the Leander Independent School District started a bit delayed Monday morning -- at 10 a.m. -- following a gas odor in the area.
Leander ISD spokeswoman Veronica Sopher said crews shut off gas and that repairs were under way just before 9 a.m., when officials gave the middle school the all-clear.
Buses were rerun and students who were already on buses at the time of the gas odor were taken to Bush Elementary until the start of school. Students who were already at the middle school at the time the gas odor was noticed were also taken to Bush Elementary.
Someone noticed the odor before 7 a.m.
As a precautionary measure, school officials decided to delay the start of class time. All events before the start of school were canceled. Sopher said the district does not anticipate any further delay.
Police and fire crews were at the middle school investigating the situation.
