BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A wreck in Burnet County on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a teacher at Georgetown High School.
The crash shut down on State Highway 29 at the Williamson County/Burnet County line.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials said the wreck happened at 7:33 a.m. between two cars.
The person who died was identified as Deirdre Furr, an English teacher at Georgetown High School. The Georgetown school district was offering counseling for students and staff.
“It is difficult when our school community loses a member of its family,” said Superintendent Joe Dan Lee. “Ms. Furr was a role model to so many students, and her gift to teach will become a fitting tribute and memorial of her life.”
Furr was in her 12th year of teaching at Georgetown High School. She received her Associate of Arts from Vernon Regional Junior College and her Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University at Austin.
