ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN/AP) - A 14-year-old Round Rock boy killed in a North Texas car wreck was a freshman at Cedar Ridge High School.
Round Rock Independent School District officials said on Monday that there are counselors on hand for students and staff at the high school.
Five other people were hurt in the weekend crash involving an SUV in Parmer County, about 85 miles northwest of Lubbock.
Department of Public Safety troopers said Jordan Simms was ejected from the SUV when the driver apparently began falling asleep Saturday morning, drove into the median of U.S. Highway 70 and lost control when trying to recover. The SUV rolled over several times before winding up on its top.
Medical staff at Muleshoe Medical Center treated the driver, who was later released. The four other passengers were hospitalized in stable condition.
Police tell the Amarillo Globe-News that Simms was the only person in the car not wearing a seat belt.
