PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - A car full of teens smashed into a child's bedroom in Pflugerville,Texas on Tuesday morning. Rescuers were also forced to evacuate six homes after the car broke open a gas line. A hazardous-materials team was called to help cap the ruptured natural gas line that caused the 80-percent gas saturation inside the home.
Pflugerville police are still looking for three of the teens who were passengers.
Patrick Crowley and his two children, ages 7 and 3, were in the house when the car went through two fences before smashing into the 7-year-old's room. No one was injured.
Bailey, 7, had crawled into her parents' bed just hours before the car crash.
"Thank God she did," said Stacey Browley, Bailey's mother.
Her parents were not sure exactly why Bailey decided to sleep in their room but the seven-year-old has her own theory.
"I was asleep in my daddies room and if I was in my room then I would die,” said Crowley. "God knew it was going to happen so he woke me up in the middle of the night."
Her father, Patrick Crowley, heard a large boom at about eight Tuesday morning.
"I ran into my daughters room and all I could see was the bed against the door jam,” said Patrick Crowley. “If she had been in there it would have been tragic.”
Police are not releasing the driver's name but say they believe the 16 year old was drinking and speeding when he crashed. In addition to breaking the fences, wrecking the lawn and crashing into the house, the driver also busted a gas meter, saturating the Crowley's home with natural gas.
"The amount of natural gas if it reaches a certain percentage there could be a possible ignition,” said Randy Hartford, Atmos Energy.
Fearing the Crowley's home could blow up, neighbors lined the streets for about four hours. One of those neighbors helped Patrick Crowley detain the young driver until police arrived.
"He was extremely drunk,” said Crowley. “Extremely intoxicated."
The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and the three passengers ran away.
"They set up a perimeter but weren't able to contact them,” said Assistant Chief Jim McLean, Pflugerville Police Department.
Despite all the damage, the Crowley's are focusing on the positive.
"I'm very thankful my kids weren't in there," said Patrick Crowley.
At just seven years old Bailey may not understand all of the feelings her parents are going through but she to is seeing the silver lining in her room and toys being destroyed.
"Mom and Dad will surprise me with toys even though it's not my birthday or Christmas," said Bailey Crowley. The family does have home owners insurance and a crew will be out to begin work on Bailey’s room on Wednesday.
The driver faces charges for driving without a license, drinking and driving and speeding.
Police said the driver is a 16-year-old juvenile who did not have a license. Patrick crawly said the young suspect was taken to the hospital with blood coming from his nose and lip.
Patrick Crowley also said he could smell alcohol on the driver's breath.
