WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Williamson County commissioners on Wednesday extended the burn ban unto Jan. 18 because of the persistent dry conditions.
"Due to extremely dry and windy weather conditions, which increase the potential for wildfires, the Texas Pyrotechnic Association has voluntarily agreed not to sell fireworks with 'Sticks and Fins,' which pose the greatest wildfire danger,' the county said in a news release.
The county judge was given the authority to lift the burn ban during this time if conditions improve.
Under the ban, no one may burns any combustible material oudoors. The ban prohibits burning household yard waste, such as leaves, grass, brush and other yard trimmings. It also prohibits burning to clear land of trees, shrubbery and other vegetation.
A violation punishable by a fine up to $500.
The ban runs until Jan. 18.
