Buffalo heads found at Leander site

Jogger made an unusual find while on run

LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) - A jogger in Leander made an unusual discovery at a construction site Thursday night.

According to Leander police, the jogger found two buffalo heads at the site where a new grocery store is being built at the corner of Lakeline Boulevard and Crystal Falls Parkway.

The buffalo heads were "fresh" but nothing at the site indicated where the remains came from.

After checking with the Williamson County livestock department and Parks and Wildlife, nothing indicated the animals were stolen from a ranch.

Upon further investigation, authorities were able to connect the dots on how the buffalo heads ended up at the site.

"We found out it was a hunter who'd legally shot them," said Lt. Derral Partin. "He had been involved in an accident while transporting them and left them in the field so the insurance adjuster didn't have to take pictures of the trailer with them on it."

The driver told police he was enroute to Bertram to prep the heads for mounting purposes when the accident happened.

The heads were released back to the hunter and police said they will not be seeking any prosecution.
