WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A man is getting 25 years in prison after leading police on a chase that reached speeds of up to 140 mph - and all while officials said he was intoxicated at almost twice the legal limit.

Blake Melvin Frye, 38, pleaded guilty to felony driving while intoxicated Wednesday after a judge found he used his car as a deadly weapon while fleeing from officers.

Because of this, Frye will not be eligible for parole for at least 12 1/2 years - even though there were no injuries.

The incident began on Jan. 21 when a Killeen Police Department officer tried to stop Frye after the officer reportedly saw him driving a 1984 Porsche 944 and racing with another vehicle.

Authorities said Frye didn't pull over and that he drove from Florence to Liberty Hill, before then heading south into Cedar Park.

Williamson County deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers joined the pursuit, reaching speeds of up to 140 mph.

After an officer spiked Frye’s tires, he reportedly fled on foot was later caught and arrested.

A blood sample showed a blood alcohol level of 0.15, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Authorities elevated the misdemeanor DWI to a felony charge because Frye had four prior DWI convictions in Florida. He also had been to prison before in Florida and Ohio for burglary, theft and a drug offense.

Officials said his longest previous prison sentence was three years of jail.
