PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - At least 25 cars have been broken into recently in the Windermere and Brookfield subdivisions north of FM 1825. A little more than a week ago, many homeowners discovered smashed windows, missing stereos as well as missing GPS devices and laptops. Travis County Sheriff's officers said the crimes happened between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. One victim reported seeing three individials running off, investigators do not know who is responsible.
Some victims did leave their car doors unlocked and left items in plain sight. Those are two mistakes that investigators said made the job easier for thieves. Besides the string of cases in Pflugerville, the sheriffs office said they are seeing more cases of theft everywhere.
"You could attribute it to the economy," said Sgt. Richard Hale. "There is an increase in vehicle burglaries, residential burglaries, an increase in business burglaries, and construction site theft." If you know who is responsible for the recent break ins or you see anything suspicious, call the Travis County Sheriff's Office.
