Fire destroys 25 homes in Steiner Ranch
Thousands evacuated

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Thousands of people will not be spending the night in their Steiner Ranch homes after a wildfire continues to burn in the 4,600-acre subdivision located near Lake Travis.
As of now information from the Austin/Travis County Emergency Operations Center located in East Austin is and has been slow to trickle down to the media.
Deputies on scene who were not authorized to talk to the media say the fire was still burning as of 11 p.m.
During a press conference held at the Emergency Operation Center at 8:30 Sunday night, eight hours after the first major fire broke out in Central Texas, a spokesperson with the Travis County Sheriff's Department said 25 homes have been destroyed by the fire.
As of midnight residents who evacuated were not being let back in, however Ranch Road 620 has been re-opened.
Almost 3,000 Austin Energy customers are without power in the Steiner Ranch area.
