CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - The University of Texas filed a lawsuit against the Tower Express car wash, saying the business' tower is modeled too much like the one on campus.
The Cedar Park car wash was notified by UT in December of potential trademark violations.
UT attorney Craig Westemeier said they have worked with the business to make some changes but that the car wash’s tower is still too similar to the UT tower.
“We’ve been trying to create an equitable solution,” said Westemeier. “Communications remain open with the business.”
The UT tower and its image are registered trademarks.
In December Tower Express owner Bob Tesch removed the clocks from his tower to differentiate, but UT attorney’s said it is not enough.
Tesch said on Friday that he had dealt with the university in good faith and was modifying the building.
He said construction on a new structural design for his tower would be complete on or before March 23 and that the University is aware of the renovation.
