AUSTIN (KXAN) - Some 14,000 preprinted UT BCS Championship shirts and hats are being donated to the relief effort in Haiti.

University Co-op is working with the organizations Fashion Delivers Charitable Foundation, Inc. and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. to facilitate the transport of the fan gear to a Haitian community.

The shirts and hats were printed before the college championship in case the Longhorns won.

University Co-op has had the shirts, which they are contractually bound from selling, in storage since the January 7 loss to Alabama.

George H. Mitchell, Co-op President, said in a statement, "With the terrible tragedy and loss the Haitian people have suffered and are still experiencing, we do realize this donation may not be very high priority for them. However, we all need clothing and this is a small contribution we can make to assist in their recovery."
