Llano (KXAN) - The city of Llano in the Hill Country bills itself as the Deer Capital of Texas.  Hunters know all about that claim.  Now the city wants art lovers to know it as well.

Last month, businesses and community groups brought in seven statues shaped like white-tailed deer.  Local artists took six of the deer.  They then worked to turn each of the plain, white statues into a unique work of art.

Sunday afternoon, the artists unveiled their work on the city's main square.   They posed for photos in front of whimsically-named statues like money-themed "Mr. Big Bucks" and the "Daddy WAR Buck."  One called "Llano's Deerest Treasures" features images of local landmarks.

The seventh statue went by the name "Buck Naked," and people attending the unveiling were invited to decorate it by firing paintballs at the statue.

The artists plan to display the statues around town.  They call the display the Trail of the Deer.  The display will be up through the summer.  Then in the fall, the artists plan to auction off the pieces for charity.
