AUSTIN (KXAN) - Foo Fighters took to the stage of Stubb's Tuesday night. The official announcement was supposed to be made at 8 pm, but it appeared on social media earlier in the day - a perfect example of interactive meets music.
Seems like nothing is a secret at SXSW for long. Joe Eley from London found that out when he read on twitter about the Foo Fighters playing at the Media Temple SXSWi Interactive closing party Tuesday night.
"It's very exciting - this is my first time here. So it came up on a whim, basically," said Eley.
On the final day of interactive, and the first day of music, visitors and locals like Corley Sims found plenty of entertainment.
"You just ride your bike down, you go online and figure out everything you can do for free and you kind of hop to all of them," said Sims.
The Ice Cream Man party at Club DeVille served 20,000 treats while eight bands performed.
The BMI Howdy Texas party at Stubb's served as the official Texas-sized welcome to musicians, industry executives and media.
And at Serrano's Cafe , an internet infrastructure company hosted concerts to attract fans of music and high-tech - a smooth transition from interactive to music.
"We think we're really bridging the gap between emerging artists and internet technology," said Kyle York, VP of Sales and Marketing for Dynamic Network Services .
Austin rocks all year long, but this week- even more so.
"This is what I've been waiting for. It's awesome," said Sims.
Foo Fighters attended the SXSW premiere of their documentary before performing at the SXSW Interactive closing party.
