Hermine flooding: In your words

E-mails and photos tell some of the story

Updated: Wednesday, 08 Sep 2010, 7:37 PM CDT
Published : Wednesday, 08 Sep 2010, 2:44 PM CDT

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Below is an informal tracking timeline of Tropical Storm Hermine in the Austin area , as noted in hundreds of e-mails sent to KXAN News by citizens with observations as local flooding began. Many stayed up late or all night to pump out homes as water seeped inside.

Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010

6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

  • 4.5 inches of rain in Cypress Mill, Cedar Park
  • Tree broken and knocked over by wind in Fredericksburg
  • Heard and saw a funnel cloud near Parmer Lane and MoPac at 7 p.m.
  • I was walking outside just off Anderson Mill Road and Highway 183. Clouds pushing together, looks like some rotation. No funnel just rotation. Please advise starting to pour very, very hard here.
  • What does a tornado sound like? Can we hear it coming?
  • Downed tree limb between MoPac and Interstate 35
  • Rain total so far today in Pflugerville at Howard Lane and FM 685 is 7 inches, per my rain gauge
  • Rainfall total in my rain gauge in Niederwald, Highway 2001 and Highway 21, more than 6 inches, as the gauge ran over.
  • We have a river running through our backyard and into the front yard. Strong winds and heavy rains but no tornado yet!

8 p.m. - 9 p.m.

  • Very fast moving, circular, low layer clouds over Gattis School Road and Double Creek Road in the Southcreek subdivision, Round Rock.
  • It's not that deep yet, but there are LOTS of frogs on the road! County  Road 340, Burnet
  • 1.6 SW Andice is reporting 4.52 inches of rain since midnight with 4 inches coming down between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. It is still raining moderately and picking up.
  • Small tornado touched down on Northwest Drive in Round Rock. It tore my fence up and tree limbs are down

9 p.m. - 10 p.m.

  • As of 6:30 we've had 4 inches of rain, but within the last hour again, we have had another couple of downpours. Phil has drained the pool once already and to walk in the backyard, you walk in ankle-deep water.
  • Vehicle stranded due to high water at Wyoming Springs Drive at Cloud Peak.
  • Flash flood warning until 11:45 p.m.
  • Almost 4.5 inches since the event began, at Grand Avenue Parkway and Picadilly Drive
  • Heavy rain, strong winds and lightening in Round Rock. The heaviest I have seen tonight.
  • At 9:30 p.m. we have measured 4.5 inches of rain five miles east of Burnet off Highway 29.

10 p.m. - 11 p.m.

  • Received an additional 2.03 inches since 8:15 p.m. We now have a total of 6.55 inches for the day. Still raining.
  • Flash flood warning for Bastrop, Cadlwell, Travis and Williamson counties
  • Doppler estimates now exceed 6-7 inches and more rain is developing. I’d be prepared for possible rescues and/or flooded homes overnight in flood prone areas!

11 p.m. - 12 a.m.

  • The rain is still training across us, and it appears that it will continue for hours to come. Tropical. The temperature has risen two degrees to 74 since this afternoon. So far, I’ve caught 6:38-inches in Travis Country in WSW Travis County.
  • Anyone still up out there and have a wet vac? Our house has flooded, and the rain isn't going to stop anytime soon west of MoPac.
  • Brushy Creek Road at Brushy Bend Drive and numerous other roads closed due to high water
  • If you see 7 to 8 inches or more near the headwaters of Shoal Creek near the Arboretum, it will flood Lamar Street at 10th Street.
  • My sister's home on Robbie Creek Cove in Lakecreek off Highway 360 is flooding.
  • Homes are flooding at 3607 Meredith, Tarrytown
  • Thanks, Jim, and staff for being on the vanguard.
  • It’s flooded out at the Hill Country Bible Church on the corner of Little Elm Trail and RR620. Where they have their pond is completely underwater. I had to drive through it to get home tonight.
  • Weather in Liberty Hill is bad. Several fences are down where creeks run through. I have had 8.3 inches of rain thus far.
  • The creek along Lake Creek Boulevard in Anderson Mill is about to spill out into the road very soon.
  • Westgate is flooded. The water is coming over the bridge on Westgate between Jones Road and Stassney Road.
  • Hey Jim, Thank you for keeping us informed tonight. Wanted to let you know I live at the top of Far West and I have 4 inches of water standing in my house.
  • Hi, I work at Randalls part-time at 3300 Bee Caves. We lost power at 10 p.m. In leaving, Bee Caves was under water. I drove much of the way down the center line at the highest point in the road. I would really caution drivers to take it very slow, or not drive at all. The maximum speed on Highway 360 was at 40 mph, approx 20 mph on Bee Caves. It was very difficult to see how much water is on the roads this late at night and especially as the rain is still pouring down.
  • There are some fallen large branches as well, which made getting through it pretty scary, at the low water crossing on Sundown Parkway off Bee Caves Road.
  • Just got home from helping someone whose house had several inches of water inside the home. They live in the neighborhood just north of Sam Bass Road and Hermitage Road. We had about 15 people with shop-vacs and
    • pumps pumping water out. We also dug trenches around the house and had two large outdoor pumps that pump 10,000 gallons of water per hour going full blast. We feel we finally have the house somewhat manageable though there is still crazy amounts of water falling from the sky. On our drive home along Sam Bass Road there were several areas where the water is anywhere from 5 to 12 inches deep. Our prayers go out to those that are affected adversely by this storm.
    • You made comments several times tonight about your belief that the rainfall measurements have been overstated for today's tropical storm. I was actually shocked at how LOW those numbers were tonight! Here's why. My measurement system is not scientific, but covers a wider area -- it's my pool. The increase in my pool's level was 8 inches as of 6:30 p.m. tonight and it's been mostly pouring outside ever since then. There is no water "runoff" which runs into my pool other than a small waterfall. I'd estimate the waterfall was approximately a 0.3 inch impact on that 8 inches of water level increase. I live in the Four Points area of Grandview Hills. I have to believe the pool level -- being such a wide area -- would be a great indicator. Our neighborhood flows into Lake Travis. The other side of Highway 620 runs into Bull Creek. I also think you knowing this is important, because if those measurements everyone is reporting are off for some reason (winds, etc), then wouldn't everyone be underestimating the runoff amounts for flooding purposes?

    12 a.m. - 12:30 a.m.

    • YIKES, my house is flooding. It appears the rain gutters are overwhelmed causing water to move through the house on Laurelwood Drive.
    • Oak Hill at Circle Drive, Highway 290 west guage overflowed at 6-plus inches in the guage. I emptied it and it's filling fast again. The water is not draining fast enough. Little Pen Creek is flooding and now roads are flooded at Ledgestone Terrace over Highway 290 west. It's raining heavily at12:06 a.m. Homes are flooded by high creeks.
    • Jim - We are at Highway 183/Highway 620 area, and we're getting pounded with rain. There is also a little creek/drainage area back here, so we hope it lets up soon. Anyway, thanks for staying on the air, even though it's been a busy few days for you.
    • Brodie Lane south just past Convict Hill Road. Google 3800 block of Kandy Drive and look up on maps. The creek behind my house is up to the highest I have ever seen it.
    • My roof is leaking! Highway183 and Anderson Mill Road. Rain gauge is now a pool.
    • Just got another update and the house on Hermitage Road in Round Rock now has a third 10,000 gallons per hour pump that is barely keeping up.
    • You asked for some rain total reports. My gauge is full at 6 inches, and when I emptied it just before sundown it was maxed at 6 inches. I just emptied it again, it was 4.5 inches. So we've had 10.5 inches so far today. It's still pouring here, as it has been for the last 4 or 5 hours. It's going to be a long night. My address is just off of Anderson Mill Road, about halfway between Highway 183 and Highway 620.
    • We've measured 9 inches in the Villages at Western Oaks which is just off of Davis and La Cresada (just off of MoPac). Thanks for all your hard work.
    • Our rain gauge has shown a total of 9 inches and it is still raining. We are at the Scotland Well Drive and Topridge area.
    • 45th Street is starting to flood, especially just before Guadalupe Street. I was just out there. I live in the Triangle (45th and Guadalupe).
    • Rain total at Far West and MoPac is 8.2 inches. Crazy rain tonight
    • Ranch at Brushy Creek neighborhood near FM 1431 and Parmer Lane is 7 inches in my rain gauge.
    • USGS is showing Shoal Creek at 12th Street is at 16 feet.
    • Nine inches in our gauge in leander. Crystal falls Parkway closed at CR 273 due to flooding in Leander.
    • Nine inches with two inches in the last hour in Barton Hills.
    • As of 6 p.m. Cedar Park (Buttercup Creek) had received 4.65 inches. Since then we have received another full 4” as of midnight, for a total of 8.65 inches. Keep up the good reporting.
    • The drainage ditch is flooded. Water is over the road in Becket Meadows neighborhood in Oak Hill.
    • Just dumped out an overflowing rain gauge with 5 ½ inches in Driftwood, two miles from the Driftwood fire station.
    • In south Wimberley we have had 6 inches of rain as of midnight.
    • I've got a dry creek next to my house that feeds into Wild Basin. It's roaring with water now. I estimate that it's anywhere from 8 to 10 feet deep with water that's rushing so fast it's deafening. I'm in no danger yet, nor is my house, but I'm wondering what to do if I start getting water inside.
    • Rattan Creek is flooded and getting closer to fence lines. We have had more than 10 inches so far. I will take a photo in the a.m. when it's light outside and send it to you.
    • We have received 4 5/8 inches of rain as of midnight on Mickey Drive. (Brushy Creek, Williamson County).
    • I'm in Balcones
    • Club. Water is almost to my door.
    • We live on the greenbelt in Lost Creek in Westlake. We can hear the creek raging. Several neighbors are bucketing water out of homes around the neighborhood. Rain gauge says 9 inches in 24 hours.
    • I just poured out my rain gauge that topped out at 6 inchesan hour ago. About 7 inches now here in Avery Ranch.
    • We are at 29th Street and Lamar Boulevard and just saw a huge tree fall across Northwood Road (1500 block) and Kerbey Road (2700 block). Police are on the scene! Be safe out there!
    • We live on Hurst Creek and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. the creek rose more than15 feet.
    • We've had 8.7 inches today, 5.5 inches since 4:15 p.m. MAKE IT STOP!!
    • Approaching 6.5 inches in our rain gauge near the Dell campus (Gattis School and Mays) just east of Interstate 35 in southern Round Rock.
    • We have 7 inches at Circle C at FM 1826 and FM 45.
    • We live on El Dorado, close to Lago Vista City Hall and have just emptied 6 inches from our rain gauge.
    • We’ve had a total of 7 1/2 inches in our rain gauge in the Westwood Community in Leander.
    •  I live on Williamson Creek just upstream of the Broken Bow neighborhood (Buffalo Pass, just south of Jones Road). The rain finally slowed enough to get to my rain gauges -- both had overflowed by 11:45 p.m., in excess of 6.5 inches. Intense rain fell from 8 p.m. until 11:45, on top of the rain during the day.
    • Water is flowing into our home!!! Far west area. I'm on Deepwoods Drive.
    • A lot of rain in Georgetown. The San Gabriel River is up and running fast. In Florence they are asking people to get out and go to one of the shelters that they have up. One is at the firehouse. They also have a swift water rescue going on right now. I can't remember the road.
    • Parmer Lane and Dallas Street has 8.5 inches as of 30 minutes ago.
    • About 30 minutes ago I attempted to take FM 2222 to Highway 360 to get to my house in Jester. FM 2222 is completely closed off right past County Line and there were multiple fire trucks, ambulances and rescue vehicles present just past where it was blocked off. I had to turn around and take Mesa up to Spicewood Springs to get out to Hwy. 360. Avoid FM2222 between MoPac and Hwy. 360 at all costs.
    • I have had 8.75 inches in my rain gauge since 2 p.m. today. My backyard is a lake right now.
    • It's been raining non-stop all day here. At least 10 inches. The ground is completely saturated and any more heavy rains will flood my backyard -- not from the creek. No doubt Shoal Creek is flooding.
    • Avoid Interstate 35 if possible. I just had to drive back from downtown Austin to Georgetown. There is flooding on the outside lanes, and I hydroplaned several times, despite low speed. Only one lightning strike this evening in Georgetown, but was so close that it set off my car alarm. I don't know if other areas are getting dangerous lightning strikes. Thanks for your ongoing coverage. It is really dangerous out there.
    •  I'm off of Ohlen Road and Highway 183 and rain has been pouring through my chimney all night. The big pot on the left is 10" deep and I'm about to empty it for the fifth time. I know, I know the chimney worked like a funnel, but jeez.
    • I'm in Oak Hill off Highway 290 at Circle Drive. I agree that the rain totals should be higher. My gauge reads just over 8 inches right now, and my swimming pool is about to flood the house / yard unless I can get it pumped down first. Let's hope the rain stops soon.
    • Seven inches and raining hard.
    • The rain will not stop. I can't see outside because it's dark and the rain is POURING!!!
    • Jim, Thanks for being on! Ya'll are the only station doing it live -- appreciate it.
    • We live out Highway 290 west, a little further west than Ledgstone Terrace that you mentioned earlier. Been at this location 31 years, and have never seen the run-off pool like this -- there's no place for it to go! I think we've had 8 inches; it keeps coming in waves. Septic alarm's going off! Thanks again.
    • Ten inches since this morning.
    •  I'm in Balcones Club. Water is almost to my door.
    •  I live at Interstate 35 and Highway183 and my rain gauge indicates 7.5 in of rain. I haven't seen so much rain since the flood of November a few years ago when we had tornadoes and about 8 inches of rain. It is unbelievable.
    • 6.67 inches in Round Rock near Stoney Point High School
    • The Woods off Sam Bass Road, west of Interstate 35 has more than 6.70 Inches.
    • Hello. I wanted to let you know on Turtle Creek Road between Anderson Mill and Pond Springs is flooding. The run-off from Millwood neighborhood has been running like a river all day. The water is getting dangerously close to the houses that are on the run-off.
    • I live in the Buttercup Creek subdivision in Cedar Park. I have had 9 inches of rain at my house today. I'm afraid to go to bed because the water has been so close to my back door.
    • My rain gauge says 9.63 inches. I am near Highway183 and FM 1431.
    • I'm at Highway183 and Balcones Woods Drive. My gauge has caught
    • 8.10 inches since this morning, 5 inches since 4:30 p.m.
    • DK Ranch Road in northwest Austin. At 10 p.m. the rain gauge showed a total of 4 inches in the last 24 hours and by midnight, we got another 6 inches for a total of 10 inches so far.
    • O'Connor & Highway 620, home rain gauge indicates 6.9 inches in the last 24 hours.
    • I live in the Westwood subdivision in Leander (off of 2243 West near HEB Plus). Our 6-inch rain gauge has overflowed. It was raining too hard to go out to empty and start over.
    • I live right next to Bowie High School at Slaughter Lane and Brodie Lane. The rain is so heavy it is rising up around my house from the rain gutters and coming in the doors. Sscary thing is the rain is not stopping. We have way past 8 inches and in a very little time period.
    • Our rain gauge overflowed at 6 p.m. at 5. inches We emptied it about two hours later and have had 2 inches since then. We've got sand bags keeping the water out of the house, but it would be in the house without them. This is from water that just can't run off fast enough. Water in the backyard is 4-5 inches deep.
    • We have been dumping our gauge and we are now over 12 inches at west Park Street in Cedar Park.
    • 2.22 inches last one-hour reading, 7.57 for last 24 hours, 8.10 inches for the event. Jollyville area near Blackfoot Trail and McNeil Drive.
    • We live near Balcones Country Club. Spicewood Club drive looks like a river. My friend who lives on that street has 1.5 inches of water in her house and it is still coming in.
    • I have 9.75 inches at Highway 360 and Courtyard and it's pouring.
    •  Hello, between Highway183 and HIghway 183A where there's road construction going on, water is coming up on the road and, there were temporary drainage pipes coming out of the ground that had to be moved onto higher ground.
    • I live in Block House Creek off Highway 183 in Leander. Since 4 p.m. I have had more than10 inches of rain. My gauge holds 5 inches and has overflowed twice. I am having to continuously drain the pool to prevent it from flooding the house. It will be an all nighter. Still coming down in sheets. Thanks.
    • My rain gauge at Sam Bass Road in Round Rock reads more than 7 inches at 12:28 !!!!
    • Quarry Lake, northwest Austin. My 6-inch rain gauge has overflowed. Apartment pool has also overflowed, entire pool area is under water. Thanx for your reporting.
    • I live near Far West Avenue and MoPac. A lot of special rescue emergency vehicles going north on MoPac with lights and sirens on. Just keeping you updated. Thanks for the great news!

    12:30 a.m. - 1 a.m.

    • From Cat Hollow in Round Rock -- 10 inches of rain!
    • In north Round Rock, just east of Interstate 35, on FM 1431 (University). At my home, we have measured at least 11 inches of rain and still counting.
    • Cornor of Brodie Lane and Sunland Driver, Shady Hallow gauge overflowed at 6 inches.
    • Cedar Park -- My rain gauge ran over at 9 p.m. -- 7 inches -- Have had 2 inches since then in the Buttercup Creek area.
    • Lake Creek Parkway off the Highway183 (Mellow Meadows and Lake Creek Parkway). The small neighborhood canal was empty at the beginning of the day now it completely full and flowing like a raging river. Stay indoors!

    • I have had 8.1 inches of rain since early this morning. I am located about 1/2 mile southwest of Barsana Dham on Highway 1826. My yard is a lake as water cannot run off fast enough and it is raining cats and dogs right now!
    • I just checked my gauge with 8.25 inches today and counting.
    • Just about 6 inches in south Travis County near Manchaca Road and Shady Hollow area.
    • Hey KXAN, Im wanting to go ahead and hit bed for the night but I'm worried about the fact that there was a tornado warning in Williamson County earlier. Is there a possibility for that to happen again tonight? Im actually in Travis County. I've actually had that question for awhile. What if you're sleeping and a tornado warning goes off or a tornado hits your area? Appreciate it! Thanks!
    • My daughter went to a friends in Lago Vista. I'm worried about flooding there. Looks like the rain totals are less? Have you heard anything?
    • Brushy Creek Road east of Parmer Lane, portions of FM 1431 east of Parmer Lane and parts of Anderson Mill Road near Cedar Park are becoming impassible.
    • There are 8.7 inches in Cedar Park at Anderson Mill Road and Lime Creek.

    • !!! I am looking at a bayou next to the motel that is at capacity and might overflow soon !!! Last time I saw a tropical storm like this I lost my 95 Impala SS on 4/28/09 in Houston due to another tropical storm !!!!! This is the second worst I have seen in my 32 years of my life up until this point !!! Thank God that it is not flat here or we would be under water everywhere !!!
    • My weather station is reporting 7.5 inches total rain at our house in the Tarrytown neighborhood and more than 2 inches in the last hour.
    • It is now 12:30 a.m on 9/8. About 8 p.m. in the evening, I emptied 4 inches from my rain gauge on Aqua Verde Ct (off Cuernavaca). At 10:30 I emptied another 2 1/2 inches, and just now 2 inches. That's 8 1/2 today, 4 1/2 in the last four hours or so.
    • I am located in Great Hills. My Davis Vantage Pro is currently reporting a storm total of 8.49 inches at 12:37 a.m. The rain rate has consistently been more than 4 inches/hour for the last 15 minutes with a peak of 6.13 inches per hour.
    • We have one inch to go and our home is flooded in the Round Rock West Subdivision (not a flood plain).
    • We have emptied our rain gauge twice with a total of 12 3/4 inches of rain at our home in Spicewood at Bull Creek in northwest Austin.
    • We have 6.67 inches in Round Rock.
    • In Lago Vista and we have had 9 inches off of Dawn Road.
    • We have 9.25 inches at Harper Park Lake Creek in Anderson Mill.
    • We live at the bottom of Morado Circle and the rain is continually pouring down and running fast down both sides of Morado Circle.
    • We have 10 3/4 inches, with 5 inches since 9:45 p.m.
    • When this rain will finish I never saw that much rain in my life. Thanks for updating us.
    • I live in Hunter's Chase just north of Highway  183 and McNeil Road. I emptied my rain gauge at 8 p.m. when it had 3.9 inches. It has now overflowed, meaning 6 more inches. So 9.5 to 10 inches here.
    • I live in Sendra at Bowie Lane and Slaughter Lane. The rain has been going on for 24 hours and the low areas in my yard are full of water. The water is getting so high it is two  feet away from my back door and the rain gutters are just flowing this water like a faucet. I have had no flooding here for the 15 years I have lived here. It seems the water has been falling super hard for seven hours. My rain gauge reads 8.2 inches.
    • Water is almost to my back door at the Williamson Co.-Travis County border, HIghway183 at Oak Knoll. It has risen 6 inches in last 45 minutes. It is going over our driveways and white water around our houses.
    • I've lived in the Austin area since 1980. I've not seen rain like this since the 1981 Memorial Day flood. I'm in the Lakeline Oaks subdivision in Cedar Park. Earlier this evening, I drove by the Hill Country Bible Church at Highway 620 and Little Elm in Cedar Park, and I noticed that their pond had flowed over the sidewalk and onto the street. There are a couple of other low-lying parks in the neighborhood that looked more like lakes. Thank you for keeping us informed.
    • We've had 9.4 inches of rain so far in Round Rock near Interstate 35 and Old Settlers.
    • I live in Onion Creek Subdivision in South Austin and just emptied the rain gauge with 5.8 inches.
    • Milwood neighborhood has some flooded streets. "Dry creek bed" is in some back yards. The entire greenbelt looks like a lake. We have had close to 14" now.
    • Quarry Lake, northwest Austin - my 6-inch rain gauge has overflowed. Apartment pool has also overflowed, entire pool area is under water. Thanks for your reporting.
    • The increase in my pool's level was 8 inches as of 6:30 p.m. tonight and it's been mostly pouring outside ever since then in the Four Points area.
    • I was in my present location for the 1981 Memorial Day flood. I am on the east border of "City Park [Emma Long Park]" (near the intersection of Oak Shores and Pearce Road.). We had 8 inches of rain in four hours that day in 1981. The rain has not been quite so intense this evening as it was that day (except for a few tens of minutes at a time), but of longer duration. I stopped counting tonight at 10 inches around 11:30 p.m. this evening due to more pressing matters. If anything it has been worse since then, the kind of rain like that on 5/31/1981. There is no doubt that our rain accumulation here tonight exceeds the extreme of the Memorial Day flood. The scary thing is the raining that seems to be lining up to our south, looking to continue this for hours to come. It looks to me as though this event is, fortunately (for central Austin) shifted just west by a couple of miles, otherwise I am sure Shoal Creek would be another terrible story overnight, despite the improvements in the watershed.
    • It has begun raining harder, in the last hour, at least 3 more inches, for a total of 14 inches plus since midnight last night.
    • Mesa Home Systems weather system on the Internet shows 11.5 inches.

I arrived home after 6 p.m. and found 2.7 inches in my gauge. I did not empty it as I did not expect so much more, so fast. At about 8:20 p.m. it really started to pour down, at 10 p.m. I ran out and emptied an overflowing 5 inches. Just after midnight, I checked the gauge and see another 2.5-plus inches in it, and it's still raining very hard at times. Out front the street is full curb to curb, actually running over my driveway and into the yard, this has only happened one other time in my 20 years at this home. My backyard is totally full, like a lake, for almost all of my 200-plus feet, it sounds like a "big pond," with all the frogs celebrating!!! Across the street water is running from between the houses across the street 6 inches deep and at least one house has water in it (seeping under the wall) the land behind those homes I’d undeveloped!

We are near 1460 (AW Grimes) and 79. We were going only 15-20 mph about 10 p.m. and hydroplaned at least twice. It is raining so hard here that it's hitting the windows so hard it sounds like hail. The wind is also UNREAL! Lightening like crazy!! We are afraid to stay in the bedroom so we have moved to the living room away from ALL windows. My cats are walking around hissing because they don't understand the sound of the wind.

The rain is coming in our front doors, and garages here, the backyards are completely under water. We are out there with brooms, and makeshift barriers (needing sandbags) We will be up all night soaking up the rainwater coming in the house. I hope there is a lull soon!!!
    • I just drove from Lake Creek Parkway. Lake Creek Parkway at Westwood High School is flooded and closed and AFD is onsite. From Lake Creek Parkway and Mopac, heavy to moderate rain fall. • Water from Bull Creek is flowing such that homeowners along Lake Austin are feeling the same impact as when five flood gates are open on Lake Travis. Barton Crfeek just passed into flood stage. Lake Travis is up one foot since 8 a.m. and the rain has only been falling on the southern end of the lake. Big Sandy Creek was still dry at 11 p.m. and is now running at 3000 cfs. People went to bed by a dry creek!!!

    • Getting some severe lightning and heavy thunder now up here in Leander, which is new.. It's been raining all day, raining very hard now and pelting the windows, but this is the first I've seen of the heavy lightning and thunder. Not sure if that's significant. Thankfully the drainage system seems to be holding it all, at least around me. Thanks for the live coverage...awesome. This is why I keep an OTA antenna hooked up all the time; watching 54 OTA.
    • Spicewood Springs and White Cliff. Water across Spicewood and halfway up my front yard.
    • I live in Cedar Park and I have had 10.5 inches as of 1:35 a.m. I opened my side gate several hours ago because my backyard is like a river and the water has nowhere to go. I'm in the Buttercup subdivision, but I am not close to a creek. My yard just can't hold any more water! If we get much more, I'm concerned that it will be in my house. The water is within 1 inch of my back door.
    • I had to come over to my mother's house to check on her since the BC Greenbelt is flooding, and if you can believe this, there were TWO kayakers taking their kayaks down to the Greenbelt. I cannot believe it. Anyhow, please remind these idiots to not go anywhere near water. It's so unsafe.
    • I live on Lake Creek Parkway and I cannot get out to even go to the store which is about 100 yards away. It is worse than I have ever seen. I have not seen this much rain since the Memorial Day floods of 1985 (I think)
    • I just emptied my rain gauge for the third time overflowing (holds 5 inches), over 15 inches since 4 p.m. It is over my ankles in yard. Very scary. (Block House Creek)

    • We've been mopping up water flooding our home on a hillside for more than four hours. It flowed down the hill so fast that it came into the back of our house - and kept coming. We live just off of Redbud Trail near 360 and Bee Cave.
    • First our sunroom started to flood, shop-vac couldn't keep up, so got out the pool sump pump. No sooner had we got that set up than we noticed water covering the kitchen floor! Coming in fast, but from where?? My husband is sweeping it out into the garage and down the driveway as fast as he can, but it's hard to keep up! Dining room and family room carpets getting soaked through. We've been in this house for over 23 years and NEVER had this happen! If the rain doesn't let up, we may be up all night! Yikes!
    • Water from Rattan Creek is close to my door now. I'm terrified. The flooding has affected multiple neighbors and they are scared. Any advice as far as moving with vehicles to higher ground?
    • Waller Creek is roaring so load I can't sleep. It is deafening. Off Red River and 9th Street.
    • The power has been out for about an hour at Parmer Lane and McNeil Drive. My volleyball court is flooded and I think the park behind my apts. At Parmer and McNeil behind HEB.
    • Anderson Mill Rd at Olson Road near Spicewood Elementary under water. Very difficult driving earlier tonight around 10 p.m. I can't imagine how it must be now.
    • Have over 10 inches of rain on 282 Between 283 and 281 in Liberty Hill. (5-inch gauge and it is overflowing again ) I am a trained storm spotter. Saw a gentleman trying to pump water out of his house on 1869. intersection of 282 and 284 flooded. Will try and get video. Haven't checked 281 yet but will advise on return home. CR 282 low water crossings at williamson/Travis county line overflowing with rapids. Sandy Creek area off Nameless road flooded.
    • I live off Shoal Creek. The baseball fields at Northwest Park are three feet under water. Not to mention the water has almost started flowing vastly over Shoal Creek Road.
    • I live in an apartment complex on Brodie Lane. The rain has lightened up quite a bit so I walked out to survey the water levels. A big pool of water that collects in our complex was almost over the curb around 10:30 and it's probably a few inches deep now. So, things are a little better down south. The wind is still brisk though.
    • Hays county southwest  of Austin near the Salt Lick: I have recorded 8.1 inches of rain on Highway 1826 about 10 miles SW of the Travis-Hays Co. line near the Salt Lick Restaurant. The dry creeks out here are bank full and overflowing in spots. The heavy rainfall comes in waves or surges but there is constant light rain in between. About every 20 – 30 minutes a strong cell with lightning comes over. I live on top of a hill and the water cannot runoff fast enough to prevent formation of ankle deep lakes even on gradually sloping terrain!
    • Just think last week, I was worried that my grass was dying; now it may be drowning!
    • Barton Creek at Loop 360
    • major flooding at 20.7 feet.
    • There's rescue personnel searching the Lady Bird Lake near South 1st Street, I'm not sure what they're looking for, but they have flash lights. I soon as I find out more info I will let you know.
    • We're on high ground just off the bank of the Bull Creek park in Jollyville, north of where it meets FM 2222. Took the break in the storm to go over to the bank. You can't see anything, but it sounds like a rapid when you get near the drop. This is a field that is usually 10 feet above the water level. I'm from Oregon, and I know the sound of high rushing water when I hear it. Just hoping people will take the advice downriver and not try to cross. Worst continual storm I've seen in Austin in my 10 years here. Keep up the good work, you guys are more on top of it than any other station I've been watching.
    • Just conducted a boat rescue on Bull Creek—water appears to be up at least 5 or 6 feet. Boats are escaping!
    • Currently Longhorn Dam is releasing at 39,000 cfs. Add in Onion creek at 7000 cfs, plus all the run-off that is not coming from those two souces and considering Bastop, about 35,000 before flooding. Holy heck!! Plus this is going to flood farmlands along the shore of the river. I've got to wonder how the cattle get evacuated when the water suddenly arrives in the early early morning.
    • 2244/Cuernavaca/Timber Rdg Pass is back to torential rain AGAIN!

    2:30 a.m.- 3:30 a.m.

    • The road leading into our subdivision (Big Sandy, off 2243 and Round Mountain in Leander) is completely flooded with at least 3 feet of water about 60 feet wide. We will not be leaving to go to work until possibly this afternoon? There was a county police officer on the other side not letting anyone in or out. Will take a picture when the sun comes up.

    • Flood water is several feet deep on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown.
    • Milwood area right off Highway 183 right on McNeil Drive and a little leg of Rattan Creek is right in the backyard of my apartment complex and in the two years I have lived here nor the 10 years my family have lived here, we have never seen this little section of this creek ever flood. Raging waters filling up really badly. Constant non-stop, 24-hour rain. It is getting really bad. Feel really bad for neighbors downstairs for the water almost reaching their door. A good 50 feet from the section and water reaching the apartments.
    • Don't forget your pets that are outside. My husband had to rescue our pups at 2 a.m. as water has continued to rise in our back yard in Leander.
    • I'm on the 22nd story of a condo on 5th Street and Lamar Boulevard can see Shoal Creek from House Park to the lake. Looks ready to overflow.
    • I live on Brushy Creek at Great Oaks and Sam Bass. The water is at least 3 to 4 feet over the roadway.
    • Went down to the flood plain w/ gear. Can hear bull creek 10 feet away over the bank, but tributaries are almost dry, which means serious blockage upstream. I'm at the end of Taylor Draper at the Bull Creek watershed off of Jollyville.
    • Bridge at Oak Ridge Drive in Round Rock has flooded. There was a water rescue earlier approximately two hours ago. Shadow Brook North is trapped in by the high water.
    • We live on Cypress Creek and the creek has made a rapid and signifcant rise over the last 30 minutes. It is way out of its banks. I don't know about the bridge on RR12 but it may be getting dicey.
    • 15+ inches on flood gauge. Just awoke and we are standing in water. Gauge full for 3rd time (15 inches) in Cedar Park.

    3:30 a.m. - 4:30 a.m.

    • Interstate 35 looks like a ghost town. There have been significant improvements to drainage in and around the Round Rock area and as I drove around the area I found no barracades anywhere along I-35 and in Round Rock proper. I did not venture into the Brushy Creek area.
    • Pouring rain again in Balcones Village/Country Club area near Highway 183 and Anderson Mill Roadd. I've lived in this area for 38 years and experienced the '81 Memorial Day flood, yet I've NEVER seen water levels around my house so high. For the first time in all those years, I actually became concerned watching the water rise.
    • G'morinin', I live in the Deer Creek subdivision, approx. two miles from the intersection of RR12 and Hamilton Pool Road. As of 4:15 a.m., 11.39 inches of rain has fallen at our location since this rain event began, as per an Oregon Scientific rain gauge placed in the 'open' approximately 100 feet from the house. Thanks for the hours of reporting y'all have put in tonight.
    • My mom lives
    • in Salado across the street from Stagecoach Inn and the Salado Creek is rising fast. She lives two blocks from it and it is less than 100 feet from the back door.
    • Several of the Upper Brushy Creek WCID dams indicate that the lake levels are at or near the auxiilary spillway elevations. If the auxilary spillways engage there will likely be downstream creek flooding and possilbly additional road closures.
