TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Pflugerville officials hope to move a step closer Tuesday toward toward building a solar farm east of Austin.

R.R.E Austin Solar wants to build a 550-acre solar farm on the edge of Travis County that could power the entire city of Pflugerville. It is capable of producing at least 60 megawatts of electricity, officials said.

The City of Pflugerville signed an agreement with the company on June 3 and granted tax exemptions until Jan. 1, 2040, along with other incentives. Austin Solar will pay the city an annual feel of 5 cents per $100 valuation of the property.

RRE Austin Solar will make every effort to draw its employment needs utilizing local labor, expertise and vendors whenever possible, according to the company's website.

The agreement states the company will also provide educational training and programs for Pflugerville ISD and Elgin ISD.

The farm's site is on the west side of Manda-Carlson Road at Felder Land.

Pflugerville officials hope Travis County Commissioners will approve a tax-break for the project.

The city of Pfugerville and Elgin ISD have given their support to the project.
